Ekko is a sweet and resilient 4-year-old French Bulldog with a heart full of love and a spirit that has endured far more than most. She came to us as an owner surrender from a Las Vegas shelter, likely used for breeding, arriving with a fresh C-section scar that still needed stitch removal. Despite her difficult past, Ekko has remained joyful, affectionate, and ready to embrace her second chance at life.
Years of neglect have taken a toll on Ekko’s ears, which are thickened with scar tissue from chronic, untreated infections and hematomas. Initially evaluated for TECA (Total Ear Canal Ablation) surgery, her care team opted to pursue dermatological treatment in hopes of saving her ears. Under the care of a veterinary dermatologist, she was diagnosed with yeast and bacterial infections and began a regimen of medicated drops, ear rinses, and medicated baths. So far, her ears are showing improvement, and with consistent care, we’re hopeful surgery won’t be necessary. Ekko recently finished a course of steroids and is now on Cyclosporine, a long-term allergy medication. She is scheduled for spay surgery this month and will be recovering for a few weeks afterward. She also eats a hydrolyzed prescription diet, which is helping manage her allergies well.
Like many French Bulldogs, Ekko has brachycephalic syndrome, a condition that can affect breathing due to her flat-faced anatomy. Thankfully, her symptoms are mild and are currently managed with careful activity monitoring and lifestyle adjustments, with no need for surgery. She also has dental wear on her lower front teeth, likely from prior neglect, which results in a charming little “tongue blip.” While it doesn’t affect her ability to eat, she does take her time during meals and does best when fed separately from other dogs.
Ekko’s personality is truly blossoming and she’s a total sweetheart. She loves all people and enjoys meeting new friends wherever she goes. She does well in public settings and is gaining confidence every day. She’s currently learning basic commands like “sit” and “wait”, and she responds well to positive reinforcement and affection.
Ekko loves wrestling and playing with her doggy foster siblings but is just as happy couchsurfing and chilling. Whether she’s curled up next to you or romping around for a quick play session, she’s all about balance. She especially enjoys rolling around in the grass, chewing up toys with glee, and gently “corn cobbing” her dog friends—a little motherly grooming habit she’s held onto from her breeding days.
That nurturing side really shines in how she looks after other dogs and protects her person. She gets along well with other pups, but slow introductions are best as she can be a bit protective of her main human at first. Once she feels secure, she opens up into a loyal, goofy, and affectionate companion.
She’s fantastic in the car, walks beautifully on a leash, and sleeps peacefully in her crate at night and when left alone. She is mostly potty trained, though she may occasionally have accidents if she’s feeling extra lazy that’s improving with routine and consistency.
Ekko is looking for a forever home with someone experienced in French Bulldogs or other high-maintenance breeds someone who understands the ongoing needs of allergy care, ear and dental maintenance, and mindful activity due to her brachycephalic traits. Most importantly, she needs a home that will offer her structure, gentle training, and abundant love. In return, Ekko will be a loyal, silly, and cuddly companion who brings joy and warmth to every day.
